The bottle you are missing isn't an expansion tank as it isn't under pressure. It is just a bottle with a screw on cap that has a hole in it with the missing rubber hose going to the bottom of the bottle without an airtight seal on the cap. You check the oil in the torque converter with the engine running at idle after running for a few minutes to fill the cooler up etc, or it shows a false level because the oil cooler is higher than the torque converter and drains back. My 3C111 had water in the slew box which froze stopping it working. I had to remove the drain plug & pour in hot water to get rid of the ice
