I would think a 15w/40 would help keep up oil pressure in warmer weather on an old engine. Yep - that's certainly my reasoning. The MF168/180/184 had the 4.236 and is likely to be configured the same.

"other modifications" are a bit of a problem, but the 4.236 is easy - start with an MF65 manual or Perkins manuals.
