Re: JCB 3CX-4 Sitemaster 1989 Dipper Ram seal replacement

Am I correct in thinking this sleeve protects the nut seals from the threads (and acts as a lead-in for the seals)? Several solutions I have used in the past include: - A layer of stretchy insulation tape carefully wound on tight so the edges butt up to each other, but don't overlap will protect fro...

Re: Jcb3c 2

I would think a 15w/40 would help keep up oil pressure in warmer weather on an old engine. Yep - that's certainly my reasoning. The downside, particularly in cold weather, it takes significantly longer for the oil pressure to come up. It's always a trade-off between No. of starts / run time / temp ...

Re: Jcb3c 2

Any suggestions about the best type of oil to refill with? Especially now I will have a clean sump and clean filter . I'd stick with the theme and go for some clean oil :P As for grade, 10w/30 mineral oil is the start point, then you decide if something else suits you better. Personally I use 15w/4...

Quite right - a smaller 4.

The MF168/180/184 had the 4.236 and is likely to be configured the same.

"other modifications" are a bit of a problem, but the 4.236 is easy - start with an MF65 manual or Perkins manuals.

Re: Perkins phaser 1004 in 3cx running bad

Looking at it logicly, you need three things to start a fire - fuel, air and an ignition source. For a diesel, the ignition source is the compression - if the compression is low, it will be hard to start. The injector spray pattern / fine atomisation also makes a big difference to the "ignitabi...

Re: JCB 3CX stabiliser seals - where does the smallest oring go?

First, check the part number of your seal kit - it should be: 991/20021. I had trouble with the same pin on one side as it had rusted solid, but I have no idea what the butcher had in mind when he welded up yours. The pin should only be held in place by an M8 bolt through the eye of the ram. As for ...

Re: 3CX JCB 1997 Maint. questions

Removing a broken dowel. Another piston seal has has failed on a shovel tilt ram resulting in the shovel emptying it's self if it isn't pulled back regularly. Pulling the ram down was straight forward, but it looks like the last person in there wasn't so skilled. The dowel on one piston initially se...
