First, check the part number of your seal kit - it should be: 991/20021. I had trouble with the same pin on one side as it had rusted solid, but I have no idea what the butcher had in mind when he welded up yours. Removing a broken dowel. Another piston seal has has failed on a shovel tilt ram resulting in the shovel emptying it's self if it isn't pulled back regularly. A metal pipe to the Thermostart would make more sense.
A return line to the tank is more likely.

Welcome!

Check The Thermostart in the intake manifold. That should have a low pressure feed to it.

The gouging in front of your finger is from the bolt heads?
(trying to work out what is cause and what is effect)
