Any tips to avoid removing stuff I don't need to would be apprec...

Hi guys how on earth do you unscrew the conical nut? There's no head on it. Currently soaking in WD thinking I might have to grind flats on the head to grip?

Re: MASSEY MF40 loader/backhoe clutch issues

I used to wedge the clutch on an old Thwaites dumper that only had occasional use. I did wonder if loading the clutch springs would weaken it over time? I noted that on the posts I saw, however as some people pointed out some slightly weaker springs vs the clutch fully rusted on was a small payoff :)

Re: MASSEY MF40 loader/backhoe clutch issues

UPDATE: I did post this the other day & it must have failed to post. Basically spoke to Agri Engineer who said the clutches often seize - i did some research online & yeah seems very common in old massey's. The solution was to use the rear legs from backactor, jack up the rear wheels, crunch...

Re: MASSEY MF40 loader/backhoe clutch issues

So got out there yesterday & had a play with pedal adjsutment. Total PITA to get at but managed to depress pedal, hold with tommy bvar & then re-adjust pedal to effectively crack the clutch round a bit more. It's a crap design really as the shaft has no splines or anything so is prone to sli...
