Re: Chaseside

Great photos , the Bedford RL 4x4 tipper a bit of a rarity in civilian guise. ( Army had loads and they were thought of very highly, I remember being overtaken quite often on motorway by army RL 3 tonners when I was in my dads Commer van, petrol RL's were fast for their time with a 5 litre engine.) ...

Re: Artic Steer Backhoe Loaders

Hydrema artic backhoes have been sold in UK for decades. Never seen one in metal though ! Would imagine they are expensive compared to the all conquering rigid JCB 3CX and hire rates are nailed down . The British Army bought a big numberof Hydremas at one time . Remember the D Series skip wagon pic from my I - Spy book Lorries and Vans. In the dark days when books on trucks hardly existed :)

Re: George Fowell OR Fowler Dumpers

I missed this question in Freds post with a Winget / G.F. (George Fowell) advert , here is another one from Muck Shifter magazine from Dec 56 . I wonder if this was before Winget made their own dumpers ? Craig http://www.classicmachinery.net/forum/images/userpix/618_3P41MLPT92YOW1545581250.jpg

Re: George Fowell

Great to see another one saved .
Curious as to why you have been searching for one of these rather obscure dumpers ?

Re: Anything Whitlock ( Diggers, dump trucks, cranes et al )

1960 sounds bang on for a Power Major and this model Whitlock. I believe the Whitlocks are good strong simple machines , the slew works by a hydraulic ram pulling a cable around the bottom of the slew post and this is the achilles heel , they can snap and leave the boom swinging loose.
