Re: George Wimpey (Plant)
Mark Williams, hi, was what you call a major OCCS in S Wales the one at Glyneath? I think it was called Measgwyn. I was on that for while about 1964, I was also on Wimpeys (plant op) Water Orton M1 (Brum) & before that their Crick section of the M1, sort of amazed a firm of that size could just ...

Re: Dick Hampton's 637's in Stoke
Can anyone tell me how Aston Reece was killed in Hong Kong, I read he was killed out there but no idea what happened?
Re: French
I was with W C French on M6 at Burton Kendal about 1968 or 9, they were about the only company who paid a small bonus to the scraper drivers apart from one of Wimpeys' jobs at Water Orton. I was on a either a 977 or 955 on that job, it was probably one of the cushiest numbers I ever had on muckshift...

Re: Richards and Wallington
Fairly sure that at one time they ran some D8s and scrapers - would have been mid-sixty's . Yes they did, I was on for them a few times, we tramped some 631's from either durham (A1M) or some road job jut north of Newcastle, we tramped them up to that Scots Blackwater dam near Blairgowrie. I was al...

Re: TS14 Single and Twin.
By 1965 Blackwell had bought 4 TS14 single bowl which were employed on the Marlow to Loudwater section of the By Pass. I would be interested to know if any past operators of that era are still around. I was on that section around that time ( lost track of certainty of years ), I was on a 631 the ye...

Re: Dick Hampton
My Blackwell days included---------------High Wycombe by pass I was on that section, I think on a 631, I remember a few guys but the only name I remember was 'Ollie', a blond guy, I think, he was on a 657 but could have been a 631, the guy who had the shout was a welsh guy with a permanent limp, no...

fORSTER QUOTE: Uneedus and the McGeady's I did know. Gypsy Smith I believe worked for Shellabear Price in the early 60s. I would be surprised if any of these people are still around. I knew Uneedus the McGeedy's, ''Big Duffy'' referred to on here somewhere as ''Long Duffy'' Gypsy Smith as well as '...
