Re: 3CX with noisy slewing.

Well done Scrooby might help someone in the future. Thank you. I consoled myself last night with a pint and remembered what one of my old customers used to tell me. He always said that the man that never made a mistake never made anything and I always hark back to those wise words when I've been a ...

Re: 3CX with noisy slewing.

Have you checked there is oil in the slewbox? Mine only had water in it :wtf: Now this is where it becomes difficult ! I am very embarrassed and thoroughly ashamed of what I discovered today but I am going to tell all because two of you have tried to help me. The machine isn't used very much nowada...

Re: 3CX with noisy slewing.

I would think its a seal if your machine is a 2003 that will have rams operating the slew rather than the old rack and pinion set up. There is not alot else it can be apart from something jammed in one side of the ram. I sold my project 12 so i cant go outside and have a look. Thank you for your re...

3CX with noisy slewing.

Have owned successive JCB 180 machines since 1969 but never had this before. My 2003 3CX has developed a noise when slewing. It's coming from the bottom of the kingpost/rams area. I wouldn't call it screeching, it sounds more like 2 soft things rubbing together. It's not hoses rubbing against each o...

Re: jcb filter ?

It looks as if there isn't a cab on the machine. But does it have the remains of a doorway and some steps on the n/s ? If it does it's probably a 3C. If there isn't anything there then it's probably a 3. Almost certainly a Super Major skid unit.

Re: JCB 3D 2 kingpost axel

Don't put a new kingpin on an old rack. Buy a complete refurbished kingpost kit. Much better.

Ye Gods. It was 48 years ago when I had a 3. Sorry but I don't know. I'll guess and say Plessey but hopefully someone can do better than guess for you.

Re: JCB 3

Yes, it is a Super Major (Fordson) tractor engine. Bombproof and brilliant starters. You will have that awful steering ram with the valves in the end of it. When you get the right pump you may need to put some washers under the relief valve. ;)

Re: JCB 3CX Project 7 Shovel Reset

You're never too old to learn !!! I bought my first JCB3 in 1969 and have owned various machines ever since. Always JCB, always 180 machines. But I never knew about this "return to level" arrangement. In fairness I think this is the only machine that I have owned that has had the arrangeme...
