procedure for adjusting brakes and steering clutches
I've got a 1953 Caterpillar D4. I;ve finally got it running good, but the stoping and turning are irratic. My property is very steep, so I don't have much room to check them out. I've seen videos of run away dozers, and it doesn't look like much fun. anyone have the procedures for adjusting them? th...

Re: cat fuel system
On my 1953 D-4 cat ,is there any reason why I couldn't install a fuel return line. it would sure make it easier to purge the system and bleed out the air. do the injectors need a little back pressure? I was thinking about a needle valve in a 1/4" line. any thoughts?

manual
I have a 1953 D4 cat #5T4634W. I need a shop manual but can't find one anywhere on line. Anyone have an idea where I might be able to find one? The previous owner got gobs of silicone gasket material inside the fuel housing. Blowing out backwards cleans it out for a short time. I plan to pull all th...

Re: cat fuel system

Re: cat fuel system
here we go again, the check valve before the transfer pump wasn't lined up right, straightened that out put it back together. now the filter housing fills up with fuel, but no preassure. Kind of points to the check valve again. how much preassure should I be looking for?

Re: cat fuel system
Well, I pulled the top off of that tower and it had 4 sock filters, and they seemed to get fuel through them easily. I filled the housing up with fuel before putting the top back in. hooked up a preassure guage, but get no preassure . and the tower is almost empty of fuel. Is that small housing that...

Re: cat fuel system
Thanks for your reply's. I've cleaned the fuel tank, put in clean fuel, cheaked the fuel pressure pump, there is fuel in that housing in front of the fuel distributer pump, but unhook the lines going up to the injectors, and no fuel. someone has disconnected the fuel pressure gauge line and taken it...

Help, I recently bought a 1953 D4 Caterpillar with a pony motor. The previous owner said it was running fine a year ago. The pony had so many things wrong with it, I mounted a 5.5 hp gas engine on the fender. I've got the main engine running 3 times but the rest of the time it will only run on start...
