The Men Who Built Britain
Written by Ultan Cowley, this is a book more about the lives of the Irish transient workers, than of heavy equipment. It is full of quotes and pictures of hand digging of canals, tunnels etc. For those who worked with the Irish labourers and equipment operators it is an interesting look at where it ...

Re: Old D7 in Ontario, Canada
It's in the Kawartha Lakes district about 2 hours drive north/east of Troronto. It's on 6th Concession Road east of the town of Coboconk just before the turn off to Burnt River Road.

What is this ?
Pass this old tractor almost every week and often wondered what it is. It is located in the driveway of an old farm in Ontario, Canada. Any ideas ?

Old D7 in Ontario, Canada
Passed an old D7 that has been abandoned in a field near my town. I am guessing it is about late 1940's or early 50's ???

Re: How many left?
I retired a few years ago and now live in Canada but work for many years in the 60s and 70s as a scraper driver. I eventually learned some sense and spent the remained of my time driving D8 and box. I looved the job and travelled all over the UK but my back is now knackered and I blame it all on bou...

Re: Good ole days
Poncho, sorry I don't remember too many names from those days. Gotto be 40 years ago. I was on days but did work the odd night shift and remember Toby Munroe. I remember faces more than names and had one local fella always sat with us at dinner time and he used to take his teeth out and put them on ...

Dick Hampton's 637's in Stoke
A couple of old pictures from 1971 (I think) of Dick Hamptons 637 scrapers. Lived in a caravan parked on a farm close to the job hence my wife in the seat of a 637. I was driving an old D8 and box stripping topsoil so never got near the motor scrapers but I remember an Indian or Pakistani man who wa...

Here area couple of pics from a Wimpey hwy job I worked on near Ottawa in 1992/93. Cat235 found the only soft spot on the job. Other picture is a Komatsu 650 digging unblasted rock. Also picture of Cat 988 loader in a rock cut and a D7 levelling fill in the road base.
