Re: FOWLER CHALLENGER 3
That is the remnants of a typical Malcolm Moore DDPCU (Double Drum Power Control Unit). Brake bands and control levers (and maybe a few other parts) are missing. The drums should turn when clutch is engaged, if not turning then I would suspect the quill shaft that connects the top gearbox shaft to P...

Re: Fowler Challengers
Nigel …….. Your first photo above is of a Challenger Mark III, single reduction, bull gear and pinion final drive. The second final drive photo is a later Challenger 3 M2, double reduction, bull gear/planetary final drive. Although the planetary final drive was officially introduced with the Challen...

Re: Fowler Challengers
Paul, It appears that the ED8 engine in the Challenger Mark II never got past the testing stage so not a lot of info is available but the ED5 fitted to the Challenger 1 was basicly a scaled down version of the ED8 and there is plenty of evidence around about them. They were a "loop scaveneged&q...

Re: Fowler Challengers
The first model of what we know as the Challenger 3 was in fact known a Challenger Mark II and was fitted with a Marshall ED8 twin cylinder, two stroke engine which was in fact a dismal failure and it would appear that it never got past the testing stage. This machine had 6 forward and 4 reverse spe...

Re: Track marshall 1955
The .015" lift was to ensure the front mounts carried the weight of the engine rather than letting it hang on the bell housing. It is a long time since I measured the lift when installing the engine...... I do it by ear until the minimum vibration is heard throughout the machine. I have been wr...

Re: Fowler tractor in Qld
Always a pleasure to welcome our Marshall/Fowler friends from the UK Fred. It was great to see the two Colonials trundling around the ring too .................. I was also able to get my MP6 up there for the Show thanks to the generosity of one of our Club members. We had the "First" and ...

Re: Fowler Challengers
Quite a few Challenger 1s and 3s Paul ..... not many 4s though, I know of only 3 (confirmed) in Oz but there will no doubt be more. There were of course hundreds of Fowler VFs and then the later Track Marshall 50 and 55s sold well with a total of around 700 here ..... many still working. The Challen...

Re: Track-Marshall loader on eBay; think its an 1100?
I am going to throw a spanner in the works here and suggest that the side on picture of the loader with the bucket high in the air is not a prototype 1600 but rather a prototype "nothing" that went "nowhere". The 1600 had a 6.354 motor and this machine appears to be only a 3.152 ...

Re: Fowler tractor in Qld
Not Fowlers .................. Marshall Colonials. Two very different companies and very strong competition with each other at that stage. Although rare, to my knowledge, neither machine is unique ........................
