Re: dick hampton scrabers in the 70 tis

Woops, made a mess of that, where are the grandchildren when you need them? Try again. Hamptons News Letters, some years ago I found a rake of them in a box in the shed, from as early Port Talbot days, circa 1963 through to 72 M4. I gave them to Gerald Box who has a archive which he rather grandly ca...

Re: dick hampton scrabers in the 70 tis

Hi Peter, yes, I most certainly remember the name, but can't for the life of me but a face to it. As I keep reminding myself, it was 40 years ago! Could have been M4 lambourn, I was involved there during the second season after Ernei Walker moved on, leaving the Mad Monkk I.C. Likewise with Chudleig...

Re: dick hampton scrabers in the 70 tis

Just read Micheal Collins, (21 sept) mention of M4 Hermatige which brought some great memories flooding back for me. I was Agent for Dicks on that job, one of the few jobs I was ever on from day one, I actually unloaded the first tractor on site (an 8R of course!) throught to the final account. At t...

Re: dick hampton scrabers in the 70 tis

Hi Mash, I certainly remember your name, but to be honest can't but a face to it. Mind you it was, lets see, my God, 42 years ago! Ashton Reece was the Agent and I was Sub Agent there for a while, Dave Latham took over when I went across to the M4 at Newbury. Other names that spring to mind are Tomm...

Re: Good ole days

Haz, great to find that I'm not the only old bore who still thinks that a 22A & 463 box was the gratest tractor scraper combination of all time, that driving a 24 flat out with both feet hard on the floor was as good as sex (well perhaps not quite!) and that I'm 22 not 72 and could still do six ...

Re: Dick Hampton

Thanks Duncan, your mention of the low loader driver ofcourse made my think of (the imfamous) Owen Furry, what a guy! Funny you mention Port Talbot, I arrived there some time in 64, Billy Gunn started the same week as fitter and Peter Charlton was a regular, changing track and sprockets on the old 8...

Re: Terex scraper configuration

What a great network this is, no sooner had I finished mentioning the TTS14 when what do I find but a picture of the very article under the heading TwinTS14. The rear swan neck was worse than I remembered. And low and behold, what do I find under LeTourneau but the L60. There must be a moral there !

Re: Terex scraper configuration

Re the TS8 with Bedford engines, I seem to remember that they were designed for the army, small enough to be dropped from a Hercules, that sort of thing. What happened to the TTS14 ? We had on on demo from Blackwood Hodge on the M5 at Cheltenham back around 1969. Three engines and twin bowls with a ...
