Looks American to me It's got the saddle wheel to the left of the cross slide screw which is generally considered to be American I think they were also using V beds at an early date to. Pressure Sensors are often a source of trouble and confusion, the classic one is the engine oil warning light problem. a faulty sensor or a lose wire could be the source of your problem, assuming there is one on the machine.

Thanks for the idea but we're not that desperate yet.
I've just posted a picture of it in the old cranes still in use thread, It has turned out to be a "Vigourus" and not a "Endurance" the main difference being the lifting capacity of 35 tons instead of 25 tons
