the 1200's and 1250's out here came standard with 24 x 26 tyres and in Australia we all filled them with water back then I would imagine they would have pulled like a train until they stalled I nearly bought a 1250 once but settled on a Chamberlain instead which still worked well dragging the land p...

if you take a photo of the regulator and the alternator we should be able to tell you were to test and what to test

check conections and the regulator may be crook
I am assuming its a solid state regulator ?????

Im gunna be no use to you here but if I was to guess generally when hydraulics are working as you describe and loose power when the oil is hot the pump is crook

Always wanted a MF 1200 or 1250 but bought a Chamberlain instead, Im not sure whether that was a good or a bad thing

Welcome Pat sounds like the brushes are badly worn on the alternator
What you describe is a very common result as the brushes no longer make a good connection to the slip rings
