Re: Euclid R35 Dump Trucks, Littlel Johns China Clay Pit, Cornwall

Probably Mid-Cornwall Contractors (MCC). They had a 72-81 with them (I think!)

But not in !965, after thinking about it. Western Ex's first 35 tonners came in about 1968, ABs and Euclid.

Re: Allis -Chalmers HD41 & 31 At Lydney OCCS South Wales

There was an HD41 operating for a time in Cornwall, late 1970s (?) with Western Excavating, can't remember who the supplier was. It was pushing to a 992B with a fleet of R50s. Trouble was the guy on the tip had a clapped out Komatsu 155.

Kalgoorlie Super Pit in Australia.

Looked down into the "Super-Pit" some years ago while on holiday in Australia. I pointed out to someone that the gap between dumptrucks wasn't very efficient, and he looked at me as if I was mad! Talking last evening to the father of someone who works in mining over there, apparently if th...

I worked for most of my 30 odd years in Western Area, but ended up through err...managerial decisions in Central Area with lovely days out at North Goonbarrow! Rapid Hire were about in my time, but now its Hydrex I think. A lot of ...

Re: new CAT777f bogged

Apologies, just seen your message! The pic was indeed taken at Melbur, on 86 tip, but well before 2004, I left Western Area about 1999 and went to Central area till I retired early in 2001. Can't recall the driver, but the tip was an accident waiting to happen, horrible stuff. As you suggest, a majo...

Re: Assorted imerys Dump Trucks

I note the Shephard Hill trucks. We had a fleet at Western Area of ECC, I think in the late 80s. Rough old trucks really, they weren't a lot better than the Terex R50s they replaced. (A better ride though!) However, thats what we had to drive so must of us got on with it. The two fitters who looked ...

Re: 657 on the road

I understand from a work mate that the Western Ex 657s returned later, being operated by a firm called Public Works (Bristol) at the Great Longstone China Clay works.
