I worked for Thomas W Ward in the the early 60s at Titan works in Grays Essex as a fitters mate. a fitter and I had the job of converting a 2 axle t6 from from faceshovel to crane. I do not know how old the machine was or where it came from, all i can remember that is was a trade for a Smiths excava...

Mobile cranes can run at 16.5 tonnes at a max speed of 40 mph on uk roads, We have the heaviest axle loadings in the world. Brian C.

In the early 60s I got a job at Thos W Ward in Grays Essex , and my very first job was converting an Allen Face shovel to a crane. Ward bought the jib,the derricking unit and a front cab and everything to make it into a crane We done the conversion in about six weeks the machine was going to go into...

hydrocon also made a 50 ton strut, I think only 4 were ever made, Attwoods of London had one, Pointers, babcock had 1 each the 4th 1 went abroad

the Dumper looks like a Thwaites 1 Tonner they came out in the early 1950s they had no gears only forward and reverse clutches and drive chains. very cheap to build and maintain. I was about 15/16 years old and drove one for a firm called Tileman and Co Ltd in the Tunnel Cement Works , West Thurrock...

Hi Tim, the G C I needed a small rigging crane for the boom and fly, it carried 125ft of boom on the trailer and 55ft had to come on a separate truck, on full tower, main boom & fly the crane had about 310 ft under the hook, it was quite impressive for 1970s ,80s,all up road weight was about 68 ...
