Re: The way we were
Hi All, I haven't posted on this thread for a while but I came across this pic. which took me back to a past age. Don't know if this is classic plant or vintage like me. But I remember watching this duo work circa 1957/8 at a local cement works quarry. The shunting loco was then about five or...

Caterpillar D9G Heavy Ripping Footage
Hello Mates, here is a very nice film made by Bagger-Tom of a D9G performing some heavy duty ripping in Austria. Tom informed me, that this radial ripper is made by Pedrini, not Kelley (never heard of Pedrini, though). I'm very enthusiastic about this footage. I was born in 1982 and never witnessed ...

Re: Real or photoshop??!
Hi Dah,
it has been confirmed as a real machine, several units are tested in Austria, Russia and Australia. I didn't realized Cats High Drive patents expired till this topic came up...
It's not the first time Liebherr is reproducing a Cat undercarriage, the PR751 had a D8K style one.
Cheers,
Max

Re: Hargreaves Cat D 11 R
Hello Dah, you're right. It makes no sense at all...I've seen a Cat D9D labeled as a G, I've seen a D9G labeled as D9H. But never a NEWER series labeled as an older one. It's just...this fuel tank just do not looks right for a D11R. On the other hand, the position of the exhaust stacks looks like a ...

Re: Hargreaves Cat D 11 R
Gentlemen, I bet it's an re-labeled D11 T, at least the fuel tank looks like the T series, as does the ROPS and the engine side panels. At first sight I thought its a carry dozer with couterweight ripper and larger blade. But the blade looks like an SU-dozer with extensions added at a work shop, not...

Re: Teeth of Steel 1942 Documentary
Hi Fred, thank you for bringing in some light into that. I wasn't aware of the American roots of the British machines. But in Europe, UK was the only nation that built walking draglines and I believe even stripping shovels. In Germany, Menck built a 540 ton excavator named KRA for ripping limestone ...

Teeth of Steel 1942 Documentary
Good evening mates, found this little jewel on youtube and thought it's worth sharing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GozB9XmSs2w Love the quarry ripping action of the electric shovel just at the beginning. Good footage of dragline work also. Shows clearly why Great Britain was once one of the w...

Re: Using Dozers And A Chain For Clearing.
Hi Deas, my first contact with the chaining was a mid-ninties TV report of land clearing methods in Australia. It had some good footage of D9Gs/Hs with full scrub canopies in the middle of dense jungle. And I remember it showed an Australian contractor which was sued for illegal land clearing. He ha...

Re: Whats this bit of history ????
There were some Sherman conversions built by Letourneau. First is a simple crane-magnet setup for scrap yard use at his steel mill. Probably to avoid punctured tires. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PqSb63qg0iA/SchdjJv1BeI/AAAAAAARTlQ/hkvhEc4Te88/w780-h519-no/1961-62067.jpg And this one was calle...

Menck Electric Quarry Shovel in Australia?
Hi folks, how about this? In 1950, two Menck Model EN quarry shovels were deliverd to Sydney, Australia. The Model EN was developed 1937/38 and was a 3 motor electric driven face shovel with a 5 m³ dipper. First units started loading iron ore in Austria(not Australia!) in 1938. The EN was one of Men...
