Re: Perkins 4236 saga continues

Hi Ian, As Agrimax says, the idler gear will have two dot punch marks which line up either side of the single mark on the crank gear and two pairs of punch marks which then line up either side of a single mark on the cam and pump drive gears. I can't see where the 124 comes from?? The ones I worked ...

Re: Perkins 6.354 fuel pump JCB 814

Dear all I noticed today a diesel leak from what looks like a round disc (diaphragm) on the front side of the vertical fuel pump. Not sure what this does (some kind of regulation?). Is it common to develop a leak there? I can't see exactly from where the leak is actually coming. Thanks Peter Hi Pet...

Re: Caterpillar 22 Oil

Rye oil from Rye, East Sussex do TVO in bulk or drums. Rye Oil will also recommend and supply a suitable engine oil for your 22. The recommended oil was probably a straight non detergent SAE30, SAE 40 or even 50 according to climate. There's a lot of differing opinion as to whether modern multi-gra...

Re: my new jcb 3dmk3

Hi,
It would be good to drain your machine if only to clean the suction strainer, (filter).
It will self bleed, just operate it at tick-over till it clears the air then check the level with as many rams closed as possible.

Re: Leyland engine with flat topped rocker cover

Hi I have worked on many of these engines over the years and yours is quite a common problem. Jeremy is right when he mentions shims, but you don't need a dial gauge to set the standing height of the liners. I have often managed quite well with a straight-edge and feeler gauge. The height above the ...

Re: Thwaites Alldig

Hi Paul, I don't know the Thwaites Alldig but here's a thought. If as Jeremy says the rams are double acting and if the engine is under load when trying to slew to the defective side the problem could be the seals in one of the rams. I have come across a problem a few times on dump trucks when doubl...

Re: Perkins 4236 engine rebuild rocker shaft

Hi Ian, Like Jeremy and Pete I'm not sure what your looking for either. :? Some 4-236 rockers were bushed and others were not. If its the shaft and rocker bore size your looking for I have them here. If as Pete suggests you're thinking of grinding the tappet, (valve), end of the rocker the...

Re: Classic pictures Updated 22/04/2018

HI Steve, Great pics as ever. :thumbup:Thank you. The second pic. in your last post brings back memories for me. The pic was taken at Nantgarw Coke Ovens, South Wales circa 1964/5. The Contractor was Yorkshire based Wm. Pepper Ltd. who were part of the Hargreaves Group. I know because ...
