Re: Extreme Paving

A few years back down the line re paving test tracks. In fact yes, Millbrook does still exist as a test track. I worked at Millbrook in 1968 when the first sods were cut (C A Blackwell). We stayed in the pub in Lidlington. A big plant presence both scraper and tractor wise. I suspect few of the men ...

TS14 Single and Twin.

Just browsing through some of the old posts on scrapers and particularly the Twin TS14. In fact Blackwells had a TS14 Twin on the first section of the High Wycombe By Pass (Now the M40) from Marlow to Stokenchurch in 1964. It was the first and, only one in the country at that time. Operated by Jack ...

Re: Dick Hampton

Forster, in fact Wilson is my middle name, no connection to Charlie Wilson. I am more commonly know as Joe. I worked for Blackwells on and off from 1964 until 1972. Periods away included a couple of years in the Middle East and 2 years in Canada together with time in Belgium. My travelling pal in th...

Re: ts 24

Shellabear Price had TS24s back in the early 60s without cabs. In fact I don't remember any of Shellabears scrapers or dozers having the luxury of a cab. I worked with them on the Tinsley Park, Sheffield site in the winter of 1960. On that site there was a dozen or so 24s some of which were on hire ...

Re: Dick Hampton

Re your post Feb 16th 2017. Not sure if it is the same Frank Ward I knew on the A500 in Stoke circa 1971 however, names such as Uneedus and the McGeady's I did know. Gypsy Smith I believe worked for Shellabear Price in the early 60s. I would be surprised if any of these people are still around. Fors...

Re: World Ploughing Championship 2016

A very very interesting set of photographs, I particularly liked the older stuff. I don't know whether or not we have any old plough men on this website,if we have then does anyone remember Tom Forster, he came from Northumberland (Wallington Hall) and took part in championship ploughing from the ea...

Re: Box Scrapers

Hamptons probably had the largest fleet of D8 model 22A with box scrapers in the UK in the 60s. The M1 in Liecestershire in 1963 was the scene of a lot of these. If my mind serves me correctly, most of the operators were of a good standard, obviously they had moved up from D8 Rs with roller (that,s ...

Re: Shellabear Price/ Biwater Plant

It was still Shellabear Price in the mid 60s. I worked alongside the company in Belgium (Verviers) in 1964. Peter Price ran the firm at that time. They were basically muckshifters with maybe 10 TS24 motor scrapers together with the usual backup dozers. they generally had excellent plant operators. U...
