Re: Some sheduled maintenance

Back in summer there were some 8's (think they were H & K's) stripping a field just south of Spalding for a massive greenhouse development. Couldn't get close enough to see who they belonged to, don't think they were Carl Billings' but not sure.

Re: The way we were

I've just read this thread from end to end and I have to say it's been one of the most entertaining reads for a long time. It would make a book in its own right. I cut my teeth on the old IH Drotts and still have a soft spot for them even though I haven't seen one working for over 30 years.. My uncl...

Re: Some sheduled maintenance

I think we had one of those 432's at British Sugar Peterborough. It had a blade instead of a bucket, with a rubber edge for pushing beet into the flumes on the flat pad. Good loader. JCB did get some things right.

Re: Welding 101 Myth?

Don't forget on anything with an ECM that disconnecting the battery protects the ECM. It's always good practise to keep the earth as close to where you're welding as possible, and not on the opposite side of alternators, ecm's etc. Applies for mig, tig, stick, AC or DC.

Re: Akerman Excavators

The 215's and 225's weren't embarrassingly slow by today's standards, but the 235's were quite slow cycling. However on a short stick, even with a big bucket they had some fierce breakout. I suppose the Ackerman vs the rest debate will never be definitively answered. Interesting you mention O & ...

"Within their weight classes I never knew anything that could out-dig them in hard ground. The H series were often referred to as slow but that depended on the material type. On an easy dig Cat's 200 series would run rings round em but get into something that required real muscle and it was ver...

Re: What's this 4in1 from?

Think it might be off a Case 450, looks deep enough. Is it a Rubery Owen? I can't read the plate.
