Re: MASSEY MF40 loader/backhoe clutch issues

I seem to recall that the top half of the cab could come off, and with the engine out it wouldn't take much to remove the dash and lift it out through the gap although if you are going that far it might pay to take the whole engine and gearbox out through the front in one piece then split it? We've ...

Re: MASSEY MF40 loader/backhoe clutch issues

That doesn't look too bad at all. Industrial type tyres on the back but the fronts look like 6 ply agri pattern, when you need to change them the originals would have been 8 or 10 ply commercial type 7-50x16. I wouldn't think there is much that is beyond repair. As to getting the clutch replaced if ...

Re: A question of licences

The last couple of shows I did I couldn't unload without showing the insurance cert. so is this the next step? Someone makes a claim, you don't have the correct license for the machine, insurance invalid?

Re: A question of licences

Thanks for the replies, I don't do that many shows now but if I do suddenly decide to go it's nice to know where I stand.

A question of licences

I have a Ransomes MG2 crawler that I have owned for years but I believe I can no longer take to shows or ploughing matches etc. I have been told that any private land that the public have access to, or been invited to, or have paid an entrance fee to, now falls under the road traffic act, and althou...

Re: MASSEY MF40 loader/backhoe clutch issues

If you're slapping some lube around it, there is a grease nipple hidden behind the 'MF' plate on the back arm. The pic in the field is an N reg. model, but I don't recall there being any differences between them. The later ones still had the same plastic work lights that got so hot after 5 mins use ...

Re: MASSEY MF40 loader/backhoe clutch issues

I should have posted this with the others. I still do not know, and sadly never will know, exactly what was expected to come out of that pipe! This view does just about show the red 'frames' that dropped over the main rams to hold the loader up to allow access to the hydraulic pump etc.. If you do f...

Re: MASSEY MF40 loader/backhoe clutch issues

My downfall with the torque converter came with a 203 when I had to do a sudden stop on a wet concrete surface. After many years with a manual instinct caused me to hit the brakes and the clutch. Right? Wrong! Of course I got the throttle and at the same time left foot was hard on the left brake. Th...

Re: MASSEY MF40 loader/backhoe clutch issues

So getting back on topic... I believe the diff lock has a big hand lever as well as the pedal, that could be seized jamming the pedal or vice versa. On the rhs of the gearbox there is a response speed selector. This, and the levers marked position and draft are part of the 3 point link system and ag...
