Re: 4/98 leyland engine swap between JCB3CMk2 & Mk3?

I've gone the other way even further, my 3c3 with a 4/98 had liner issues and I had no time to dig right into it, and I got a really wrecked 3c2 with a 38dt in it. Its now in my 3c3 currently and I have the 4/98 stashed swearing to rebuild it properly one day and run it up on a dyno for a few heat c...

Re: 3C3 running tractor accessories

Understood, in that case, yes, running implements on gearbox oil would probably be bad, plus no filtration and changing implements is a recipe for disaster. In my case its a Massey Harris Pony (built pre Fergie), so it originally had no 3 point but hydraulically raised link arms. I added the 3 point...

Re: 3C3 running tractor accessories

Contamination I can deal with but I run all my hydraulic stuff on hvb46 (jcb, forklift, ride on commercial mower) , and that's what the farmers here use universally as tractor hydraulic oil. I was thinking about bypassing any spool controls on the splitter and using the cab 3rd service lever to actu...

3C3 running tractor accessories

Hi all, I haven't posted in a while, but my JCB 3C3's only moved twice in the past year or three and I've only had chance to lay a spanner on it once to fix a leaking core plug. Life keeps getting in the way. But now I need a log splitter before winter sets in proper & I wondered about a hydraul...

Re: JCB 3c mk3 front wheel hub bearings broken up

I had same on my 3c3 when I first got it, bearing had spat the rollers out. I cut through the remains of the bearing races with a grinder/dremel with cut off wheel to release the pressure on them, and they popped out easy then.

Re: JCB promotional film from early 1960s

Every time you throw the lever and shift the back acter on the rails of a 3c2 or later from the operators seat, just remember this video and what a great improvement the hydraclamp really was :)

Re: Hymac 690

Cor, you do like a challenge on top of a challenge :) Having had one diesel runaway because of a failed turbo core pumping oil into the intake I think I'd be tempted to put the kit in the replacement turbo. When I've done this, I mark up the impellers and shaft, nut etc, and put them back together w...

Re: Thwaites Nimbus Dumper Gearbox

Nice result, I hate welding cast iron castings, its the ting noises as it cools sets my teeth on edge. Ive done same with using stainless tig rods as filler, but the downside is the weld bead is super hard to dress up afterwards.

Re: JCB 3C Mk II seized alternator

My criteria for a new alternator when this happened to me was what's lying round free in the shed, so I probably have a landrover or a transit alternator fitted. As long as it spins the right way and fits in the space its fine though I've had to change wiring plugs a few times doing this. As above, ...
