Re: Wanted - JCB 3C or similar

Which leyland tractor do you have Simon? The 3c3 is based on the 270 skid, but the mk2 is potentially a 384 with 38dt etc. I think the 3c3 is a improvement over the 2 in quite a number of ways having had some experience of working on both and I like the brockhouse shuttle in my 3c3 but I confess its...

Re: Dumper bucket holes

Not to rudely want to divert you elsewhere, but there's a site dedicated to welding for amateurs that's uk based and not just for mig process, but covers tig, arc etc. You might find more comprehensive info about welding and machines available etc there. https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/ I dont p...

Re: Cleaning injector tips: Good or bad idea?

For the price of the cheap chinese/indian injector pop off testers I could have made my own but for under $100 I can be off making something more interesting or difficult to obtain instead. Yes I needed to fettle it slightly as various joints weeped slightly out the box because of poor assembly, but...

Re: JCB 3CII Removable Excavator Details

Thanks Phil. No, haven't started welding anything yet. Christmas and wet weather got in the way :D . I have tack welded the frame back the way it was and am waiting for brake parts. Once I have those, I will move the machine to somewhere safe to centre the kingpost. I have previously moved the king...

Re: JCB 3CII Removable Excavator Details

Thanks Pete, I'll take a peek at my 3c3 next time in the cab, but I think I remember from working on it that both thick service hoses run inside the mudguard area from the front up towards the loader controls/hydrachassis area on that. It could be one of the improvements going from 3c2 with leyland ...

Re: jcb 3c 2

I've asked this before, when I was pondering replacing my 4.98 with the engine out of the 3c2 with a leyland 384 skid and fitted with a simms minimec inline pump with tacho drive on the rear (but the early 4.98 had this injection pump also  ) and in the end I just swapped it in. So I think I ...

Re: jcb 3c 2

Where do you stop? the honest answer is you don't ever really finish if you intend to keep on using the machine as it was intended. But hopefully our machines get better over time. I've been going through my working machine (a 3c3) repairing major things wrong with it when time and circumstances hav...

Re: JCB 3CII Removable Excavator Details

Thats not right, hopefully you haven't started welding yet but the lower frame rail on one side is used for oil return from the backhoe controls. Here's the other side of that stiffener plate as its welded to the rear H frame, note the hose stub going into it. Sorry for the delay, I had a uneasy fee...

Re: jcb 3c 2

Before you take it apart, you can also pressure test it with a diesel compression tester in place of the injectors to see which is the bad cylinder. But make sure you use a pressure adapter that is made for the leyland or make one to suit as its easy to damage the copper injector sleeve with a gener...

Re: jcb 3c 2

Yep that is a 38TD, not a 4/98, but Charnleys state the headgasket is the same after a certain model number which yours seems to be one of :- https://www.charnleys.com/part/leyland_middle/nkj202-86k623/head-gasket It is different when it comes to some other parts as the two engines have a different ...
