Hi all, i know it's an old thread but was wondering if anyone had any info on my great uncle Stan Fidler, he was from Hampshire and i've been told he drove a D8 for Dick Hampton. Dave....I use stuff from B & Q on my Spot-on Cat d9's (also made of diecast) works just fine...it's called DIAL so probably their own brand. All DIY paint stripper stuff nowadays is a lot weaker than it used to be due to H&S legislation so 2 or 3 go's may be needed to do the job properly.. S...

If they are the usual moulded type with shiny metal rod insert try this; Disconnect the insert and pull it right out.. degrease it and holding vertically by its non ram end, dip it into a tin of GLOSS varnish. Still holding it upright allow the excess to run off the end the allow it to dry overnight...

THE MEN WHO BUILT BRITAIN;A history of the Irish Navvy.by Ulton Cowley Pub.2001 Good informative text,good pictures of the boys in tradition workwear(turned down wellies/ the suit from the night before etc.) not a hard hat or high-viz to be seen and some nice action shots of the old working methods....

I,ve found dealers/shops etc.tend to ship"by the book" whereas private sellers are more open to "posting tips"
